Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
BrightStep is a supplemental learning app for children in grades 1–8, used under a parent or guardian account. We take children's privacy seriously and collect only what is needed to run the app. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Who the account is for
Only a parent or legal guardian (18+) creates and controls the account. Children do not create accounts, do not log in on their own, and are never asked for personal information directly. A child is simply a profile the parent adds.
What we collect
- Parent account: your email address and password (for signing in).
- Child profile: a first name and grade level only — chosen by you.
- Learning activity: the progress, points, streaks, and answers needed to run the daily check-in and show you progress.
We do notcollect a child's email, photos, precise location, or any free-text that is shared with other users. There are no social features and no child-to-child or child-to-stranger contact.
How we use it
We use this information solely to provide the learning experience, track progress, and let you monitor your child from the parent dashboard. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
You provide verifiable parental consent when you create the account and confirm you are the parent or guardian. You can review, edit, or delete your child's information at any time from the app — deleting a child profile removes that profile's data — or by contacting us. You may withdraw consent by deleting the account.
Security & storage
Data is stored with row-level security so that a family's data is only accessible to that family's account. We retain data while your account is active and delete it upon your request or when you delete your account.
