The monthly report email, and how to turn it off

For a parent who got the first one and wants to know what they're reading.

When it comes

The morning of the 1st, US time, covering the month that just ended. One email for the whole family, with a section per child. The subject line names the month and your kids.

What's in it

How many check-in days each child had that month. Their current streak and stars. A count of standards practiced, which is the number of real grade-level skill codes their answers have touched, all-time. And when there's enough data, "Strongest subject so far" and "Still working on", which come from their accuracy across everything they've ever answered, not just that month. The email says "so far" and "all-time" on those lines for exactly that reason.

A month with no check-ins gets a shorter email that says so and asks what got in the way. Reply to it. Those replies are how the app gets fixed.

Turning it off

  1. At the bottom of any report there's a link, "Turn off monthly reports". Tap it once.
  2. You land on a page that says "Monthly reports are off". That's it. No login needed.

Billing emails and password-reset emails keep coming. Those aren't optional, because you'd be stuck without them. The report is the only email you can switch off.

To turn it back on, reply to any BrightStep email and say so. There's no switch for it in the dashboard yet.

Common questions

Why does it say "so far" instead of giving this month's accuracy?

Because accuracy is tracked as a lifetime tally per subject, not month by month. The days count is monthly. The strongest and working-on lines are all-time. The wording is honest about which is which.

Can I see this in the dashboard instead?

Most of it, any time. The dashboard shows the last 14 days, this week by subject, streak, lifetime stars, full days and standards practiced. The email is the same data on a schedule, for parents who'd rather not check.

Does my child get an email?

No. Children never receive email from BrightStep and we don't have an address for them. Everything goes to the account email.

Still stuck?

Email goes straight to a person, usually answered within a couple of days. Include the email you signed up with so we can find your account.
