What's new: real progress, chores, your own rewards

For a parent who got the update email and wants the two-minute version before they tap anything.

Progress that answers the real question

The dashboard used to show what your child practiced. Now it shows how they're doing. "How they're doing" is one row per subject: days finished this week, accuracy on their last 20 or so answers, and the difficulty rung the questions are coming from.

Under it, "Practice more" names the grade-level standards behind the questions they missed last time, in plain words. "Keeps missing" lists the actual questions they've gotten wrong at least as often as right. That's the five minutes to spend together.

Chores, with your star values

Scroll below your kids to "Chores". Tap anything in the starter list or type your own, and set the stars however your house runs. Every child gets an "I did it" button; you approve each one, or give the stars with one tap.

Chore stars buy rewards. They never count toward star levels or the 150-day plaque, so the ten minutes of schoolwork keeps its meaning.

Rewards you make up, and how soon they come

"Family rewards" puts your own rewards in the store, under "From your family", at whatever price you set. "Store settings" lets you reprice or hide any built-in coupon, and open the store from day one instead of day four.

What we took out: every mailed prize. The only physical thing left is the plaque at 150 full days, with your child's name on it. Everything else in the store is something you deliver at home.

The things you used to email us for

Moving up a grade? Change it under "Name and grade" on the same profile. Stars, streak and full days stay. Forgot the parent PIN? "Forgot your PIN?" on the gate takes your account password and sets a new one. Under "Your account" you can change your password and switch the monthly report on or off.

And when a child reaches 150 full days, we get an email the moment they claim it. You approve the request and watch for our note about the name spelling and the address.

Common questions

Is setting up chores required?

No. Nothing changes until you add one. A family that never opens that panel sees the same app as before, plus the new progress panels.

My child had stars saved for a mailed prize. What now?

The stars are still theirs. Spend them on coupons, closet items or a family reward. If you had an open request for a mailed item, it still shows in your dashboard and you can approve or decline it as before.

Where do I go if something looks wrong?

Email ervin@brightstepchild.com from the account address. Say which panel and what you saw. A person reads it.

Still stuck?

Email goes straight to a person, usually answered within a couple of days. Include the email you signed up with so we can find your account.
